Mercyhurst falls to Canisus in last weekend's matchups

 


Mercyhurst takes their first two losses of the season this weekend over Canisus in a heated match up with the score of 5-2 and 6-1. Friday's game started off even with the end of the 1st period 2-2 and throughout the game Canisus had the Lakers number scoring 2 goals in the second and finishing up the 3rd period with one goal to end the game 5-2 giving Mercyhurst their first loss of the season. On Saturday the two teams travel to Mercyhurst to continue the weekend and the game went neck and neck through two periods until Canisus found the lakers number notching 4 goals to take the weekend sweep over the lakers. Mercyhurst is now 7-2-1 this season and will try to bounce back next week as they head to Philadelphia to take on teams such as Rutgers and Widener to get things rolling again.

      Hello Everybody,                                             My name is Mitchell Grosch. I will be working with my partner, Nick Capozzi, to talk sports in general, and how our lives have been affected by and deal with sports. I am a senior, marketing major at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania. Mercyhurst Club Hockey ranked #6 in College Hockey!!

  This week the AAU came out with their rankings of every team playing and they ranked Mercyhurst 6 best team in the country out of 72 college teams competing for the AAU national championship. Mercyhurst has been on fire as of late recording a 7-0-1 record to start off the campaign and look to keep moving forward as the season rolls on. This last weekend Mercyhurst played to games at home facing Rochester and Alleghany College in two hard fought matches. Mercyhurst took their first loss of the season losing to Rochester 3-2 in OT and bouncing back the next day taking the sweep against Alleghany with a score of 2-1. Both goalies from the Mercyhurst team were brick walls stopping 75 out of 79 shots to keep the Lakers on top this season. The Lakers have a two game weekend against a hungry Canisus College team looking to take the Lakers out of the top 10.  Here are some of the action shots taken from this weekends games:
